Lagrange Multiplier Tests in Applied Research

Applied research requires the usage of the proper statistics for hypothesis testing. Constrained optimization problems provide a framework that enables the researcher to build a statistic that _ts his data and hypothesis at hand. In this paper I show some of the necessary conditions to obtain a Lagrange Multiplier test as well as some popular applications in order to highlight the usefulness of the test when the researcher must rely in asymptotic theory and to help the reader in the construction of a test in applied work.

Beer is considered the most important drink worldwide; it is obtained from the fermentation of barley and malt grains, with a relatively low alcohol content. Understanding the manufacturing process, and how each of its ingredients influences the sensory characteristics of the beverage, allows the producer to have better control over the results. This research gives an account of the process of making a lager craft beer. The methodology used takes into account the recommendations of different authors; however, the process is adapted to the specifications of the kitchen laboratory where the experimentation is carried out. Two differentiating factors are evaluated, which are hop concentration and temperature ranges in the cold fermentation process, for lager type yeast. Regular consumers are those who evaluate the product. The sensory tests implemented are analyzed, and the influence of the manufacturing conditions on the quality of lager craft beer is concluded.
